Friday Five
1. As a child, who was your favorite superhero/heroine? Why? Hmmm. Guess that I would have to say Superman... or maybe the Incredible Hulk. Most likely the later. Interestingly enough, both of these have recently been revived (Smallville on TV, and Hulk in the theatre) and I couldn't be more pleased.
2. What was one thing you always wanted as a child but never got? What didn't I get as a child? We didn't have much, but we always had family. That was enough. To answer the question though: Atari, and later in life Nintendo.
3. What's the furthest from home you've been? The Railhouse in Fort Worth, Texas... a great barbeque place.
4. What's one thing you've always wanted to learn but haven't yet? Greek and Hebrew.
5. What are your plans for the weekend? I refuse to answer this question.

Directly Opposite of Me
I'm sending a shout out to a good friend - on the other side of the world, he is. Globetrotter. A good friend he will always be. Missed. Some are meant to fly - others to soar. He will soar. From here to a place directly opposite of me, "Love ya man".

Friday Five
1. What is one thing you don't like about your body? This is the dumbest question ever. I dislike that it rules my life. Why do we have to wait till Heaven before they don't rule us anymore??
2. What are two things you love about your body? I was wrong. THIS is the dumbest question ever. I guess the fact that I have my grandpa's nose and chin, and that I don't have my dad's hair.
3. What are three things you want to change about your home? I don't live in a home... I live in an apartment. I wish it were bigger, cleaner, and located closer to a Target.
4. What are four books you want to read this year?
1) Lord of the Rings trilogy - Tolkien
2) The Bruised Reed - Sibbes
3) The Heart of the Artist - Noland
4) Church - Stackhouse
5) Addicted to Mediocrity: 20th Century Christians and the Arts - Schaeffer
6) Mine Eyes have seen the Glory: A Journey into the Evangelical Subculture in America - Balmer
..... and so many more.
5. What are five promises you have kept to yourself?
1) Stay in touch with as many college brothers as possible.
2) Not getting hitched till I am out of school.
3) Committing to stay in ministry no matter the cost.
4) Give all of my time and resources to friends, no matter the hardship.
5) Get my Master's before I commit suicide, homicide, or quit from sheer exhaustion of school.

The Tyranny of the Urgent
Doesn't matter how much you plan ahead, especially in ministry, you will still always have to deal with the tyranny of the urgent... those fourth-quadrant fires, as it were. I am now resigned to a life lived in the HOV lane.

Friday Five
1. Where do you currently work? I work in a church media department (but not in a bad televangelist kinda way). I am a Worship Producer at a mega-church... which means I coordinate all aspects of the church's in-house television ministry
2. How many other jobs have you had and where? I haven't had many other jobs. I spent a month at AMS Productions as a tape operator. That was a GREAT place to work. I loved it there, but the position wasn't right. I worked for a large religious television network for 6 years in Master Control and on live production. Plus I spent several years in radio as a Production director then eventually as Station Manager. All my jobs have been very cool. I love my career field!
3. What do you like best about your job? It combines my two great loves: God and media. I am able to serve my Lord, others, and do it using media. It does not feel like a job. Its a love.
4. What do you like least about your job? The hours (and sometimes the people). But mostly the hours. We a work a lot, and work hard. When others are able to let loose and worship God, we are working our hardest. It is sometimes difficult to maintain a personal relationship with God when you are constantly working instead of participating. It forces you to find other ways and times to commune with Him.
5. What is your dream job? I am pretty sure that I am living it!

Is there ever enough time?
I am increasingly convinced that there is just not enough time to do everything in life that I want to accomplish. "Why put off till tomorrow what we can do today," said Garth Brooks (though he was most likely not the first to say so). It's not that easy Mr. Brooks! We put off till tomorrow what we have absolutely no time left to do today, so SHUT-IT!
Should I feel guilty for sitting in front of TV that hour or two a night... for taking the long way home... for sitting mindlessly on a Sunday and doing whatever I feel like... for zoning out at work occassionally... on so on?? No, I think not. A careful study of the scripture will quickly remind us that God did not intend for life to be lived at this pace. And meeting ourself at both ends is, dare I say, ungodly?!? I think that it is.
Why do we do more than we should yet less than we want? For the personal without a personal relationship with Christ, the pace is swift in hopes of leaving the guilt behind. A life lived without God is a miserable life indeed. As Count Zinzindorf said, "The mind should never be allowed to outrun the heart."
For those of us who know God personally, through Christ, we have even less reason to live life fast. We have already been given all that we need and have nothing to prove to God. The pursuit of success, power, and accolades through a life without rest is unbiblical. We have no need to prove to God our ability and in manner can earn anything else from Him. He has already given us all He can give; given us everything. So slow down and ask yourself (as I am) why we rush and rush until life's no fun. Is it because we have a faulty view of what we owe God, and what He expects in return??

History and Philosophy of Christian Education
There is a mouthful if there ever was one! Today began my I-Term (a modern marvel of graduate education where an entire class is crammed into five 9-hour days, then its over). Its a little like being in grade school again... and now I wonder how I sat in a desk and listened quietly day-in-and-day-out as a child. 'Cause it's dang tough now! But it is nice to know that as soon as it starts, it's over. Only five days! This class (H&PoCE, for short) is an interesting class. It seems to be more of a seminar on educational practices of ancient cultures with a focus on Western traditions, more than it is a typical class on Christian education. And I like that about it! We are spending our time sifting through ancient mid-east Hebrew tradition and Greek pre-Christ tradition, especially the philosophers. We will move through the New Testament times and Roman influence on education including Augustine and Aquinas, spending time in the Renaissance, dark ages, and Moravian thought. Finally we will move through English tradition and the Enlightenment, colonial practice, and more modern concerns. All sounds pretty exciting huh? Maybe not to you, but to me it's golden!!! What could be more exciting than seeing answers to the questions: "Why do we do what we do?" and "Is there a better way?" All to often in society, Western culture/tradition, and Christianity we sluff off the past in favor of the present and the future. Yet we forget the God is the God of yesterday also. If we ignore the lessons past failures have taught us then we are doomed to repeat them. Christianity is not immune from that problem. In fact, we might be more susceptible than any other discipline.

Friday Five
... I realize it's a little after Friday, but what the heck.
1. Do you wear any jewelry? What kind?
- a gold necklace (a gift from Mom and Dad).
- a ring... i switch off between my Seminary Ring, College Ring, and promise ring... depending on my mood.
2. How often do you wear it? 24/7/365. Except the rings when working out.
3. Do you have any piercings? If so, where? No. Am I an idiot? Besides, I would look dumb in an earing.
4. Do you have any tattoos? If so, where? No. Never. Not in a million years.
5. What are your plans for the weekend? Mmm. Same as every weekend. Saturday work/church. Sunday work/church. Recoup.
